Goals and Objectives based on the INTASC Principles

Each Manchester College Teacher Candidate…

 Curriculum…constructs and delivers appropriate curriculum for P-12 students

• C1- Plans informative, developmentally appropriate lessons and/or units INTASC 2, 3, 4, 7  NBPTS 1,2
• This volleyball lesson covering basic volleyball skills demonstrates my ability to write informative and appropriate lessons because it is very detailed and appropriate towards the grade level being taught.
• This lesson plan over galloping demonstrates my ability to create appropriate lesson plans because it covers the locomotor skill gallop to a class of 2nd and 3rd grade children.
  
• C2- Teaches subject matter accurately to insure that students can meet P-12 academic standards  INTASC 1, 3, 4, 7 NBPTS 1,2
  • This volleyball pre and post test portrays that I can teach subject matter accurately because every one of my students increased their score from pre to post test.
• These health test results show I can teach subject matter accurately because majority of my students were able to pass the test with a 80% or higher. 
  
• C3- Uses interdisciplinary instruction as appropriate INTASC 1, 7 NBPTS 1,2

  • This lesson incorporates music and physical education to use interdisciplinary instruction appropriately because the students are performing vigorous exercise to a beat.

  • This interdisciplinary lesson plan covering art and physical education shows my ability to use interdisciplinary instruction while teaching because the students are using locomotor skills to travel and are matching colors. 

• C4- Addresses subject matter from various points of view INTASC 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 NBPTS 1,2

  • This two by two fitness lesson addresses subject matter from various points of view because the students must work individually and collaboratively in order to achieve exercise.

  • This methodology paper shows my ability to recognize the importance of teaching subject matter from various points of view and how every child learns a different way.

• C5- Teaches students to use critical thinking and problem solving strategies INTASC 4, 5, 7 NBPTS1,2

  • This lesson performing cooperative activities forces students to critically think in order to achieve the necessary outcome.

  • This health unit test covering physical activity and personal health requires my students to use critical thinking and problem solving strategies.

• C6- Uses effective questioning strategies INTASC 4, 5, 7 NBPTS 1,2

  • This tennis unit plan shows that I have used appropriate and effective questioning strategies to ensure student learning within my classroom because the written test at the end of the unit covers the basic skills that were taught throughout the unit.

  • This assessment over fundamental movements is effective and uses appropriate questioning strategies because it is developmentally appropriate for the students being assessed. The test is developmentally appropriate because it uses pictures of the skills provided and the students must draw a line from the word to the picture, making this assessment effective for the age group. 

Assessment…assesses students’ learning and development with a variety of measures to aid in appropriate and effective instructional planning

• ·         A1- Develops appropriate tools to assess learning INTASC 4, 8 NBPTS 3

  • This reciprocal task sheet shows that I have developed appropriate tools to assess learning because the task sheet covers the necessary skills in sequence to perform a proper badminton smash.

  • This test assessing fundamental movements is an appropriate tool for assessing student learning because it is developmentally appropriate and covers basic knowledge of the movements.

• ·         A2- Assesses learning through standardized and/or teacher constructed tests to drive future instruction INTASC 8 NBPTS

  • This volleyball pre-test assesses learning through a teacher constructed test to drive future instruction because the results were recorded and used for future lesson development.

  • This Bruninks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency assesses learning through a standardized test to drive future instruction in motor skills.
    

• ·         A3- Assesses learning through appropriate alternative measures to drive future instruction INTASC 4, 8 NBPTS 3

  • This badminton reciprocal task sheet is an assessment that can be recorded and used to teach specific future instruction where the assessment shows needed.

  • This tennis skills test is an appropriate assessment tool that can be used to record results and teach to those specific results.

• ·         A4- Uses a variety of appropriate, authentic assessment tools and methods INTASC 4, 8 NBPTS 3

  • This tennis skills test is one way of assessing a students forehand drive by using a point value system showed in the diagram.

  • This Test of Gross Motor Development is an authentic assessment method used to assess motor development on elementary aged children.

Relationships…establishes professional and reciprocal relationships with others invested in P-12 students’ learning

• R1- Demonstrates sensitivity for diversity with students, colleagues, parents, college faculty, and/or community agencies  INTASC 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 NBPTS 5
• This ARC of Wabash Thanksgiving feast paper demonstrates my sensitivity towards diversity with students and community agencies by reflecting on the dinner and activities that night.
• This Autism Workshop Certification portrays my sensitivity for diverse students because it shows I took initiative in progressing my professional development for those with disabilities.
• R2- Demonstrates with full awareness of ethical and legal responsibilities of teachers INTASC 7, 8, 9 NBPTS 4,5
  • This Milford Student Teacher Handbook demonstrates that I have had the opportunity to read and understand the ethical and legal responsibilities inside of Milford Elementary School.
  • This paper regarding bullying shows my full awareness of ethical and legal responsibilities as a teacher by researching the harm and effects of bullying.
  • This CARE objective during student teaching shows that I was able to successfully demonstrate ethical and legal responsibilities because my supervising teacher witnessed and recorded that I met this objective.
• R3- Values life-long learning, personal/professional development, and/or service orientation INTASC 9 NBPTS 4, 5
  • This methodology paper talks about my passion for teaching and how important being a life long learner is as an educator.
  • This IAHPERD reflection shows that I value professional development by attending the Indiana conference in November 2010.
    
• R4- Models appropriate oral communication skills INTASC 6 NBPTS 1, 2
  • This reflection completed by my supervising teacher in student teaching shows my ability to properly orally communicate.
  • This presentation rubric shows my ability to orally communicate properly to an entire class about Orthopedic Impairments.
• R5- Models appropriate written communication skills INTASC 6 NBPTS 1, 2
  • This progress report shows my ability to model appropriate written communication by creating a progress report for a student to send home to his parent about his success.
  • This brochure models that I can use written communication for instruction by creating an organized and informative brochure.
    
• R6- Motivates students to learn individually, collaboratively, and cooperatively INTASC 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 NBPTS 1,2, 3
  • This orienteering lesson gives the opportunity for students to learn individually by allowing them to use their own compass and direction marks.
  • This two by two fitness lesson motivates students to learn collaboratively with others in order to complete their sheet the fastest. 
• R7- Plans lessons in collaborative teams INTASC 6, 10 NBPTS 5
  • These team schedule results show my ability to plan lessons in a collaborative team because my cooperating teacher assisted in constructing the teams and teaching the unit.
  • This badminton lesson shows my ability to plan in collaborative teams because I worked with a colleague to complete the lesson and team teach that period.

  • This orienteering lesson shows my ability to differentiate learning opportunities that respond to individual styles and challenges by creating a lesson that allows the students to learn individually.
  • This overhand throwing lesson provides learning opportunities that pertain to individual learning styles and challenges by allowing students to choose their distance to throw from.
  • This reflection shows how I have differentiated learning to meet the needs of a child with a disability. This reflection talks about the changes I have made to his individual learning styles.
• E2- Uses a variety of teaching methods and materials INTASC 2, 3, 4 NBPTS 1, 2, 3
  • This unit plan demonstrates my use of teaching methods and materials by using a variety of teaching strategies and materials throughout each lesson.
  • This lesson over the overhand throw shows my ability to use a variety of materials throughout a lesson by allowing the students to throw paper airplanes in the air.
    
• E3- Uses a variety of appropriate media and technology INTASC 2, 3, 4 NBPTS 1, 2, 3
  • This presentation shows my ability to use media and technology appropriately by creating a very informative slideshow.
  • This Tao Bo Funk video lesson shows my ability to use appropriate technology in physical education class by allowing the students to follow along a workout video.
• E4- Keeps records to monitor, document, and report student progress INTASC 8, 10 NBPTS 1, 3
  • This fitness gram shows my ability to monitor, document, and report student progress by keeping records of a students fitness levels.
  • These Bruininks-Oseretsky results demonstrates my ability to keep records to monitor and report student progress by recording the results of this standardized test.
    
• E5- Manages student behavior in positive, safe ways INTASC 2, 5 NBPTS 1,3
  • This archery safety handout manages student behavior during archery class by showing them ways to act safely around the equipment.
  • This behavior intervention plan shows my ability to manage student behavior effectively by creating a plan to stop a student from talking out of turn periodically.
• E6- Models conflict resolution skills INTASC 2, 5, 8 NBPTS 1, 3
  • This reflection about a parent call that I made shows my ability to use conflict resolution skills by compromising with the parent.
  • This progress report shows my ability to appropriately communicate conflict resolution skills by telling the parent about where the student needs improvement.
    
• E7- Engages in research and reflection on best practices in teaching strategies INTASC 1, 2, 7, 9 NBPTS 4, 5
  • My reflection paper demonstrates best practices in teaching in the classroom by reflecting on ways that I would change or alter the strategies used.
  • These adaptations for individuals with disabilities in a physical education setting shows that I have engaged in research pertaining to best practices in teaching strategies.
