Informal Reading Assessment

 A Webquest for  Elementary Teachers

designed by Professor Heather Schilling

As elementary classroom teachers, we must be able to quickly assess a student’s reading ability and not simply rely on standardized tests performed once or twice a year and that may take months to receive the results.  While these standardized tests provide an important picture for the school population and are required by state and federal government levels, teachers need immediate feedback on their students’ strengths and weaknesses.  Therefore, we need a variety of assessments we can use easily to give us important information.  This tutorial will provide teachers with information on a variety of assessments.  Work your way through each button below in order to gain a better understanding of informal reading assessment.
