The Process
Your journey through this WebQuest will take four steps. These steps are: Learning About the Structure, Create a Class "Favorite Flower" Book, Planting Seeds, Observing Your Flower Grow. Remember along the way you can write interesting facts about flowers or whatever you find and want to remember in your flower journal!
Step #1 Learning About the Structure 1. What is a seed? To help you answer this question explore Great Plant Escape Mystery #3 website. 2. After visiting this website, you will draw in your flower journal a picture of a seed and label the parts of it. 3. Next you need to decide on the flower you would like to become. What type of seed are you going to be? What will that seed look like when it blooms into a flower? Visit the flower seeds website and look at all the different options on what kind of seed you would like to be. 4. After visiting the website, list the top three flower seeds on a piece of paper that you would like to be. To help answer the next question pick just one flower seed you would like to become for this WebQuest. Answer on the same sheet of paper: Why did you choose to become that flower?
Step #2 Create a Class "Favorite Flower" Book 1. With the rest of your classmates you will be creating a flower book to put in your classroom library! First, you need to learn about the many different types of flowers out there. Explore these two website Wildflowers in Bloom and Annual Flowers. Refer back to these two sites as much as you need to. 2. In your flower journal you will need to draw your favorite flower you liked. Below your drawing list the following:
3. Next, on a separate page in your flower journal you will create a short poem about your flower using this flower template. Print off this flower template! 4. Once your flower drawing and flower story are done your teacher will collect them. Then they will be put together for your class "Favorite Flower" Book!
Step #3 Planting Seeds 1. Now comes the exciting part! You are going to get to plant your own flower seeds. Your teacher should have different kinds of flower seeds to choose from. Go tell your teacher you are ready to pick out the flower seeds you would like to grow. You will need to collect:
2. The next step is to place your seeds evenly on top of your soil and then lightly cover your seeds with some more soil. Water your seeds and place near your classroom window.
Step #4 Observing Your Flower Grow 1. For the next three weeks observe your flowers and write down notes in your flower journal on what is changing each day. Do your observations when you arrive in the morning! 2. Your final task is to write a personal story of your journey of becoming a wildflower. In the story you will tell us:
