Computer-based Concept Maps:
An Interactive Model for Manchester College Education Undergraduates

This assignment is designed for future teachers (or current classroom teachers) to investigate the research behind computer-generated concept maps as well as the various uses of these concept maps in the classroom. In the first part of this inquiry, participants will analyze and discuss various uses of concept mapping in general. Next, they will investigate the effects of computer-generated concept maps such as those generated by software packages like Inspiration. Finally, for a culminating activity, participants will create their own literacy activity based on a children’s book of their choice that requires their own students to create a computer-generated concept map.
