Environments
E1- Differentiates learning opportunities that respond to individual
learning styles and learning challenges
- These modified vocabulary
worksheets
demonstrate my ability to modify lessons for all the learners in my
classroom. These worksheets have been modified for a high functioning
student (pg1), a student with a learning disability (pg 2), and a
student with a mild cognitive disability (p3).
- This
visual impairment rubric
demonstrates my ability to understand the needs and
requirements of individual learning styles. The flyer found within in this
document conveys modifications and accommodations I would use to help
students with visual impairments.
E2- Uses a variety of teaching methods and materials
- These
trade books will be used by
students once they finish reading various stories. These activities require
students to use various materials while completing the activity. Here you
can access the
rubric
that was used to evaluate my trade books.
- Throughout my
unit plan
I used a variety of teaching methods to engage students in various lessons
over Ben Franklin. The lessons found within the unit engage students in a
variety of subjects such as cooking, art, music, and various others. Here
you can access the
rubric
that was
used to evaluate my unit plan.
E3- Uses a variety of appropriate media and technology
- My VanWie
presentation and
rubric
demonstrates my
ability to understand the importance of technology within the classroom and
how it can be used to manage student behavior. During this
presentation, technology was utilized by the
presenters and a person in the audience. The presenters utilized various
tools on the interactive whiteboard, while one member in the audience took
notes on an iPhone.
- My
visually impaired video demonstrates my ability
to use Windows Movie Maker to create a video about the affects of being
visually impaired.
E4-
Keeps records to monitor, document, and report student progress
- This
Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA)
and
rubric shows my ability to
monitor and document a student's behavior. The FBA was conducted in
a special education room over a two month period and for 21.5 hours.
Throughout the observations I used Behavior Frequency Forms, anecdotal
notes, and profile cards to document the student's behavior.
- This
Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)
was written to correct the misbehaviors of a high school student in a
special education room. The document was completed after the student was
monitored for a two month period. The FBA was used to complete this report
which outlines the steps necessary to help the student manage their
own behavior.
E5- Manages student behavior in positive, safe ways
- My
classroom management plan and
rubric shows the various routines and
procedures I will implement in my classroom to manage students' behavior
and promote a positive learning environment.
- This
behavior intervention
plan demonstrates my ability to manage students behavior
in a positive safe way. I identified the antecedent of the student's
behaviors and developed a way to help the student replace the unwanted behaviors. The
plan outlines the steps necessary to help the student gradually manage their
own behavior.
E6- Models conflict resolution skills
- This
letter from Dr. Mary Lahman outlines the
conflict transformation skills I taught first grade students during her
class titled Intercultural Communications. As a service learning
opportunity, I taught students how to handle conflict by talking out their
problems by using I-Messages, staying calm, being a good listener, and
working together to solve conflict.
- This
lesson
shows my ability to use literature
to teach students conflict resolution skills. The Lorax
by Dr. Seuss is used to teach students healthy ways to handle conflict.
Students must identify the conflict within the story and explain how to resolve the
conflict in a healthy matter. Students learn how to solve conflicts peacefully
by making decisions that do not favor one party involved in a conflict over
the other.
E7-
Engages in research and reflection
on best
practices in teaching strategies
- My
reading research paper
shows how Literacy Circles improve reading skills
across all content areas. By completing this research paper it demonstrates
my ability to conduct research and reflect on best teaching strategies.
- My
instructional
reading strategy presentation and reflection
over word sorts demonstrates my ability to research and
reflect upon best teaching practices. This presentation and reflection,
based on the correct way to use word sorts to help struggling readers learn.
