Stone Soup Lesson-  This is a lesson created for 2nd grade students in a resource room, it includes a script for "Stone Soup" reader's theater and a fluency page.

Julie of the Wolves- Literature focus Unit-This is a literature focus unit for 4th-6th graders using the book Julie of the Wolves.  This unit takes about 4 weeks and involves journals, group activities, character sketches and much  more.

 

Selective and Recovery Reading Lesson- This is 2nd grade reading lesson that I adapted after observing.  It involves group reading and independent reading.

 

Cookie Fun This is a group of activities geared towards children ages 2-6.  In this activity the teacher reads If You Give a  Mouse a Cookie.  Students make cookies and study the importance of giving to others.

 

Which One Doesn't Belong? LessonIn this third grade lessons students are working with their vocabulary and determining which words are not related to each other.

 

Stone Fox LessonIn this 5th grade lesson students work with the book Stone Fox and discuss story plot and elements.

 

Two Reading Lessons Using My Side of the MountainThese are two 5th grade lesson plans that use My Side of the Mountain that incorporates the ReQuest and Motor Imaging methods to teach comprehension.

The Importance of Art on Education Paper- In this paper I explain how crucial art instruction is to the overall education of students.

 

Printing LessonThis is a fourth grade art lesson that teaches students about printmaking.  Students get to make their own their own printing stamp and create a picture using their new tool.

 

Drama

Painting a Picture LessonThis is a creative dramatics lesson where student create stories based on how another group uses a collection on various household items.

 

Rhyming Charades LessonIn this lesson students play a rhyming acting game to learn vocabulary words.

 

Spelling Pantomimes LessonIn this 4th grade lesson students use pantomimes to act out the letters that make up their spelling words.

Meet Your ClassIn this 5th grade lesson students use a mix-pair-share activity to get to know their new classmates.

 

Science

 

Science Fair Lesson- What Floats Your Boat-  This is a lesson that I used to introduce a new science unit for my 5th grade student teaching placement where the students make boats out of tin foil and compete to see which boat can float the most pennies.

 

What's That Tree Science TrailThis is a science trail for 5th graders.  It takes students on an adventure around campus using different techniques to identify trees.

 

How do You Know There is Air in This Bag? Lesson- This is a hands on 4th grade science lesson teaching students about the volume of air.

 

Investigating Bean Pods and How They Grow Lesson-  This is a hands on 3rd grade lesson.  Students investigate the parts of a lima bean seed, their uses, and how they grow.

 

Bernoulli's Principle Lesson- This is a 5th grade lesson teaching the students about Bernoulli's Principle.  Students work in groups on experiments that show Bernoulli's Principle and why it works.

 

Oobleck LessonThis is a 1st grade lesson that I created with a group of my peers.  Student use their observation skills to determine whether this sometimes gooey, sometimes hard substance is a solid or a liquid.

 

Water Cycle LessonIn this active lesson students learn about the water cycle by learning the "Water Cycle Boogie" song and dance.  This is one the students won't forget.

 

Ferns Trail Talk- This an outline of a lesson that you can do teaching students about ferns while on a nature walk.

 

Pollination Station Lesson- This is a lesson that teaches students about the pollination process through hands on activities and a fun song.

 

Keeping it Warm LessonIn this 5th grade lesson students learn about things that are good conductors of heat.

 

 

Special Education

Behavior Plan- This is a behavior plan that I created with a peer after observing and studying a student with behavior issues in the 5th grade.

 

Social Skills Lesson- Swamp Crossing-  This is a lesson that I co-taught with my cooperating teacher to a 3rd grade class to work on their social skills and acceptance of students with special needs.

Classroom Management Plan- This is a detailed paper that explains my thoughts, practices, and beliefs that make up my classroom management plan.

 

Content Papers

Child Case Study- This is a case study that I completed on the cognitive, emotional, and physical development of a 2 year old.

 

Content and Methodology Paper-  In this paper I describe the benefits and highlights of elementary and special education content courses taken here at Manchester College.

 

Liberal Arts Paper- In this paper I express the importance and benefits of a liberal arts education.  I give examples from various courses on campus that have had a significant influence on my education and way of thinking.

 

Teaching CredoIn this paper I discuss the teaching philosophies that I had during my first year at Manchester.

 

Birth Order PaperThis is a paper that I wrote as an honors project based on the idea presented in The Birth Order Book.  In this paper I discuss the effects of birth order on people's personalities, life styles, and actions in reference to learning styles.

 

Social Studies

 

American Revolution Thematic Unit-  This is an interdisciplinary social studies unit that I created and taught during my 5th grade student teaching placement.  It includes 12 lessons incorporating math, science, language arts, art, P.E. and music and a pre/post test.

 

Citizenship Tree LessonThis is a 3rd grade social studies lesson designed to teach students the meaning of good citizenship.  Student think of three things that they could do to better their community and create a poster showing all of the good deeds they will do as a class.

 

Edible Resource Map LessonIn this lesson 3rd graders learn about resource maps and how to read them.  They end up making their own edible resource map out of sugar cookies and other tasty treats.

 

Flag Lesson- This is a lesson on the American Flag geared towards preschoolers.  The students will learn about the importance and different parts of the flag and then make a bookmark to help them remember what they learned.

 

The Great Plains Region Lesson-  In this 5th grade lesson students make a layered foldable to enhance their knowledge about the characteristics of the Native Americans that lived in the Great Plains region.

 

 

Math

Math Fact Families LessonIn this 5th grade lesson students learn about math fact families by participating in a class activity using an inflatable math fact dice.
