C1- Plans informative, developmentally appropriate lessons and or units INTASC 2, 3, 4, 7 NBPTS 1,2
Attached is a lesson plan involving different types of angles for a third grade mathematics class. This lesson shows that it is effectively informative and appropriate through the activity of having the students making the different angles with their bodies.
This lesson plan dealing with the Midwest, was created to address students by activating prior background knowledge by reading a book and then making the learning hands on through filling in maps.
C2- Teaches subject matter accurately to insure that students can meet P-12 academic standards INTASC 1, 3, 4, 7 NBPTS 1,2
Here is a picture of my grade book that I filled out during my time at Syracuse Elementary. You will see my students grades on quizzes and test indicate that I am teaching the content accurately. All the quizzes are out of 10 points and the test is out of 20 points.
During student teaching I taught a mini unit dealing with the solar system. In this paper, you can see the results on my ability to teach the subject matter accurately. To find these results look at page two on this document.
C3- Uses interdisciplinary instruction as appropriate INTASC 1, 7 NBPTS 1,2
While creating this lesson plan, I was able to implement not only a social studies standard, but a language arts standard as well by having my students write a journal about a day as a soldier during WWII.
Within this lesson plan, I have developed a way to effectively implement drama into my classroom by having the students get out of their seats and learn through kinesthetics. The students used emotions through their body in this tree activity.
C4- Addresses subject matter from various points of view INTASC 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 NBPTS 1,2
Attached is a lesson plan where the class is learning about habitats. I provided the class with a field trip to address the content from a different point of view to make it impact them more.
In this lesson, I have utilized the format of a 5E lesson plan, where I have implemented a variety of tools to address the curriculum with my students. The content of this lesson is dealing with understanding what a consumer and a producer are. Within the lesson the class will be creating their own food chain.
C5- Teaches students to use critical thinking and problem solving strategies INTASC 4, 5, 7 NBPTS1,2
Throughout this science trail that I created, my students were guided into making discoveries themselves through asking their peers questions and using critical thinking. Some of the tasks they had to fulfill was figuring out what creates a storm.
In this 5E lesson plan, my students are learning about consumers and producers. They are finding out how the food chain works in a big circle and during this lesson the students are encouraged to branch of from my instruction and discover new ideas on their own.
C6- Uses effective questioning strategies INTASC 4, 5, 7 NBPTS 1,2
In this science demonstration dealing with classifying different animals, I used questioning strategies at the beginning of the lesson engage the students right from the start.
In this lesson plan, I have implemented a series of Bloom's questions where my students will answer my guided questions relating to the topic of storms. These questions will help the students retain the information that they learned.
Assessment- assesses students’ learning and development with a variety of measures to aid in appropriate and effective instructional planning
A1- Develops appropriate tools to assess learning INTASC 4, 8 NBPTS 3
In this lesson plan dealing with famous leader and their ideologies, I have created a worksheet where the students will be assessed over what the lesson was about. They have to name which side each leader was on during the war and they also have to define communism, and fascism.
During my WWII unit, I integrated PE Gross skills by having the students complete a simulated workout of what the soldiers would have to do. For the assessment students would have to document their scores for pushups and then create a goal they want to achieve.
A2- Assesses learning through standardized and/or teacher constructed tests to drive future instruction INTASC 8 NBPTS 3
Here I have created a pre-test and post-test that I created for my WWII unit. The pre-test will provide me with feedback on what the students do and don't know to drive future instruction in the unit.
The pre-test I have created for my solar system unit is beneficial for two reasons, one it is to help me assess what my students know and it will also guide me for future instruction.
A3- Assesses learning through appropriate alternative measures to drive future instruction INTASC 4, 8 NBPTS 3
This case study provides details on the developmental stages of a child that I assessed through alternative measures.
In this science trail, students would stop at three different stations to learn about different types of weather. At each station they would do a variety of activities such as making the sounds of a storm by snapping their fingers and clapping their hands on their thighs. Throughout the walk they filled out a packet we provided them with.
A4- Uses a variety of appropriate, authentic
assessment tools and methods INTASC 4, 8
NBPTS 3
In this case study I tracked the development of a four year old boy that I worked with. I documented his cognitive, physical, and emotional growth over a allotted period of time.
While instructing a unit on the solar system, I created this worksheet to assess my students learning. This worksheet was created to allow the students to answer a few true or false, multiple choice, and short answers.
Relationships- Establishes professional and reciprocal relationships with others invested in P-12 students’ learning
R1- Demonstrates sensitivity for diversity with students, colleagues, parents, college faculty, and/or community agencies INTASC 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 NBPTS
During my student teaching, I wrote numerous reflections on my time at Syracuse Elementary. In this particular reflection I am talking about how I shared a great moment with one of my students when he received his test scores.
Attached is my Final Reflection Paper over a local kindergarten classroom where I observed a teacher with her students. There are numerous qualities of hers that I have implemented into my student teaching placement. For example, I noticed that everyone morning she would say good morning to every student individually, to make them feel welcomed.
R2- Demonstrates with full awareness of ethical and legal responsibilities of teachers INTASC 7, 8, 9 NBPTS 4,5
Attached is my rubric for my Code of Ethics presentation, which portrays, ethical and legal responsibilities that I have understood through my presentation I provided to my class. In this presentation I talk about how teachers need to handle certain situations when they are dealing with students ethical background very carefully.
You will find that my cooperating teacher provided an evaluation on me for having an awareness of legal responsibilities as a teacher. The evaluation is from a period of working with my class for eight weeks.
R3- Values life-long learning, personal/professional development, and/or service orientation INTASC 9 NBPTS 4, 5
With proof of this certificate, it allows viewers to see my participation in professional development workshop and my commitment to becoming a better educator.
