Explanatory Notes

Explanations regarding the content of the Herder notes are given in this window, including:

• Historical references, titles of works, individuals mentioned.
• Indication of the relevant Baumgarten (or other textbook) passage, when this is not clear in the text itself.
• Cross-references to related passages in the Herder notes, as well as Kant’s other lecture notes, his Reflections, and his published writings.
• Indication of whether the text reflects a passage in the textbook (Baumgarten, Meier, Eberhard, Wolff), a position held by Kant, or possibly a position that is merely being presented for consideration.
