Who can be compared to Hitler?
By Tiffany Maple
After listening to numerous comparisons between George W. Bush and Adolf Hitler, I have come to the conclusion that many people compare famous people to each other too frequently without actually taking into account the meaning behind such a judgment. Although many situations throughout history have been similar in nature, this does not necessarily mean that the prominent figures involved in the events are equivalent towards one another.
Bush is not the first nor last person that will be compared to the grotesque Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. Such a Hitler comparison has been made for many other leaders throughout the world such as Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, and even Bill Clinton.
Many times these so-called similarities could be drawn between many other people. For instance, a couple of the parallels of G.W. Bush and Hitler involved pictures of both of them with children and giving speeches to large crowds of people. Either of these comparisons could be made with almost any of the leaders after photography was invented.
However, other comparisons are more crucial to the argument that Bush equates to Hitler. The circumstances in which Bush and Hitler encountered may seem similar at the surface, but could in actuality be different from one another. Many have stated that Bush’s reaction to the September 11th incidents resembled Hitler’s reaction to the Reichstag fire. Each leader may have reacted in a similar way, yet may have still had different incentives as to the reason they reacted in that particular way. Hitler’s actions were in accordance with his desire to rid the world of communism as well as the entire Jewish people. Bush, on the other hand, did not react to the September 11th tragedies in a specific way to accomplish a greater evil plan against the world, such as exterminate all of the Muslim population.
To proclaim that a leader is equivalent to Hitler would also be like stating that the leader’s actions are no different than Hitler’s immoral doings. Think of Hitler’s most grotesque action; by stating the leader is the same as him means that this leader’s actions are identical to these evil deeds.
Many people have rashly compared leaders to the infamous Adolf Hitler, when they disagree with the decisions these leaders have made. I hope that in the future these people will first take into consideration the seriousness of making such judgments against the leaders throughout the world.
