Food Choices and Physical Activity in Early Society
The early society was mainly comprised of two types of people the hunter gatherers and the agricultural people. Native Americans are a good example of food hunter gatherers.
Hunter gatherers moved from one place to another in search of food this was mainly due to the scarcity of food in their areas of primary residence. They searched for both domestic and wild animals; they practiced little or no agriculture at all. The agricultural people grew a lot of crops mainly cereal crops and also domesticated animals for both milk and meat.

The hunter gatherers’ had a high level of physical activity and this was achieved by digging, walking briskly in search of animals, chopping wood with stone axe. All this lasted for three to five hours a day. They ate mammals, birds, insects, and everything edible on an animal’s body .Most of the wild animals lacked fat deposits. They ate a lot of wild plant food which was rich in fiber and calcium and low in sodium. Their lifestyle tried to maximize energy intake and minimize energy intake but in reality their energy intake was low and their output was high.
Their food preferences included fatty meat, honey, insects they stuffed food into their mouth particularly meat immediately after hunting. Wastage of food was rare and they adapted to starvation as a way of survival. Gorging of food most especially fat and honey was done because food was rare and scarce at the time.
