    Dawa means 'moon' and 'Monday' in Sherpa language. In Sherpa culture, lot of names are based on the day you are born. I am from Kathmandu, Nepal. Nepali is my first language but also speak English, Hindi, and understand Sherpa language but cannot speak it fluently.

    Nepal is a very small country with a population of 27.5 million. It is known for Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world, and land of Lord Buddha because he was born there.  Although 34 different language are spoken in Nepal but Nepali is the official language.     My family consists of my dad, stepmother and three siblings. My dad owns his own tourism business. My mother was the first Nepali Women to climb Mt. Everest.She has been honored with many national and international recognitions. More information about her at  this site .I am the oldest child in my family. My brother and sister also attend Manchester College. My youngest brother, who is only nine years old, is in Nepal along with my parents.

    I love traveling. So far I have traveled to a few countries in Asia and many major cities across the U.S. of which New York and San Francisco are my favorite cities. I hope to travel more in years to come.

   I love listening music, almost all kinds with the exception of heavy metal. I also enjoy cinemas and documentaries. I like learning new things. After Nepali food, I like Indian, Japanese, Thai, and Italian cuisines. Cooking and reading are two other things I enjoy when I have time.

   After graduation I intent to spend some time working in New York before going to graduate school.I will eventually go back to Nepal where I hope to start a school that helps educate under privileged  children.
