The following are terms that are associated with the study of dialect:

Accent - a characteristic pronunciation, especially: a) one determined by the regional or social background of the speaker. b) one determined by the phonetic habits of the speaker's native language carried over to his or her use of another language

Dialectology - the study of dialect

Idiolect - the speech of and individual, considered as a linguistic pattern unique among speakers of his or her language or dialect

Isoglosses - a geographic boundary line delimiting the area in which a given linguistic feature occurs

Language - a characteristic style of speech or writings; a particular manner of expression.

Registers - a variety of language used in a specific social setting

Standard Dialect - the variety of English that is generally acknowledged as the model for the speech and writing of educated speakers

Vernacular - the standard native language of a country or locality;  a variety of such everyday language specific to a social group or region
