Lesson: Recipe Card Length: 10-15 minutes
Foundation: Mathematics: Number Relationships Age Intended: Preschool
Performance Objectives:
-The students will make their own recipe for snack mix.
Advanced preparation by teacher:
-The teacher will have the recipe cards laying out for the students.
-The teacher will have the ingredients set up in different bowls (chex mix, pretzels, marshmallows, raisins, pretzels, m&m‘s, popcorn.......).

Procedure:
Introduction/Motivation: Today we are going to be making our own snacks. Their are a variety of different ingredients and you can choose four of the ingredients to make your snack.
Blooms critical thinking questions to ask along the way:
-Level 1-Knowledge
1. Can you list three of the four ingredients you added to your snack?
2. Can you recall which ingredient you put in first?
-Level 2-Comprehension
1. How would you compare pretzels to m&ms?
2. How would you state in your own words, how much of each ingredient you added?
-Level 3-Application
1.How would you apply what you have learned to develop another recipe?
2. What would result if you didn’t follow the recipe?
-Level 4-Analysis
1. What are the parts of your snack?
2. Why do you think you had popcorn and _________ had marshmallows?
-Level 5-Synthesis
1. What changes would you make to your recipe next time?
2. Can you propose an alternative to making snack mix?
-Level 6- Evaluation
1. Would it be better if you had all chex mix?
2. Why was it better that you added the same amount of each ingredient?
Step by Step Plan:
1. The teacher will tell the children that they get to make their own snack by selecting four of the ingredients and putting them into a zip lock bag.
2. The teacher will explain that when they select each ingredient they will put in 1 cup (which is one measuring cup full).
3. By adding four scoops that means you will be adding four cups.
4. Have the students pick up a recipe card.
5. Have the students go through the line and add the four ingredients.
6. Ask them to copy the name of the ingredient onto their recipe card.
Closure: Discuss with the students again about how each scoop equals one cup and four scoops equals four cups.. Encourage the students to go home and show their parents what they have learned about measuring cups by using their recipe card and making their own snack at home.
