Foundation: Science: Scientific Inquiry and Process       Age Intended: Preschool                  

 

Performances Objectives:

 -The students will understand that people can appear different on the outside but still be similar on the inside.

           

Advanced Preparation by Teacher:

 -The teacher will need to have at least one brown egg and one white egg.

  -The teacher will need to have a bowl.

 

Procedure:

            Intro/Motivation: Discuss how we are all different and similar in many ways. Then have the students discuss the characteristics of the eggs that are different and similar.

           

            Blooms critical thinking questions to ask along the way:

            -Level 1-Knowledge

                        1. How is the white egg different from the brown egg?

                        2. Can you list three similarities of the eggs?

            -Level 2- Comprehension

                        1. How would you summarize what happened to the eggs ?

                        2. What is the main idea of the activity?

            -Level 3-Application

                        1. How would you use this example to tell other people about differences?

                        2. What would result if both eggs were white ?

            -Level 4 Analysis

                        1. What are the parts of the egg?

                        2. Why do you think the eggs look the same in the inside?

            -Level 5-Synthesis

                        1. Can you invent another way to show that things may look different on                                    the outside but be the same on the inside?

                        2. Could you predict what was going to happen?

            -Level 6 Evaluation

                        1. What is your opinion of the results of the activity?

                        2. Would it have been better if both eggs were brown?

 

            Step by Step Plan:

1.  After discussing how people are similar and different and how the eggs look similar and different, put the bowl on an object that is eye level to the students..

2. Break the white egg into the bowl and discard the shell.

3. Break the brown egg into the bowl and discard the shell.

4. After breaking both eggs show the students both yolks and point out how they are both similar.

 

Closure: After the activity have a class discussion of how even though the eggs were different on the outside, they were the same inside. Then discuss how that relates to people.
