Book Summary

Located on a small tropical island close to the equator, a small baby green python is born.  After Verdi is born, his mother calls out to him "grow up to be big and green."  Verdi however, is a different kind of snake.  He like his yellow color on him and wanted to keep it that way.  He thought by acting like and playing like a kid forever would keep him from changing color from yellow to green.  On his quest to stay young, he meets three friends named Umbles, Aggie, and Ribbon.  His asked his friends to play with him, but they all replied no because they were old.  In Verdi's quest to stay yellow he flings himself from a tree and crashes to the ground.  Verdi unenviable turns green.  In the end, while is being lazy on a branch, the next generation of snakes come and ask him to play much like he did with his three friends.  Unlike his friends, Verdi says yes to the offer and goes back to being young, while he is the color green.
