Pre-Reading Activities

1) Using your knowledge of what an owl looks like, solve this owl jigsaw puzzle to determine the shape and size of a barn owl. This will introduce us to owls before we begin reading Owl Moon. You will be timed on your ability to solve the owl puzzle so work quickly!...READY...SET...GO!!!

2) At your seat, brainstorm or list 5 things that you know about owls such as...what they eat?...what do they look like?...when do they sleep?...where do they live?...etc...Your list could include anything relating to an owl.

Then with your made-up list, get into groups of 3 and combine your lists until you find the Top 10 Facts about owls that you want to use.

Now given a poster paper and colored markers, write down your list of facts as a group. They will be hung up in the classroom as we read and respond to Owl Moon.

Now we are going to take an owl quiz to see if some of your facts are actually real owl facts. So take the quiz and test your owl knowledge. HAVE FUN!!
