Field Experience

Home

About Me         I am greatly interested in finding a career that incorporates both my education and psychology majors.

Vita          To help remedy this interest, this past semester I participated in a 180-hour, unpaid internship at a local

Education          elementary and intermediate school in North Manchester, Indiana.

Bullying 101

For Teachers

                                  MES

I shadowed a licensed social worker who does many jobs including the following: leading social groups for

students who need a sense of belonging, speaking with self-referred students who are in need of emotional support,

mediating and conciliating arguments between students, contacting teachers and parents in regards to students’

behaviors, etc. It was great to be able to see to the psychological needs of children in an educational setting.

Towards the end of my internship, I created an anti-bullying presentation for all of the six- graders at

Manchester Intermediate School. I studied different techniques students can utilize when they are being

bullied as well as how to teach kids how to become more assertive and less aggressive. The presentation was a

success and the students could easily relate to some of the ideas I left them with. Afterwards, I became more

interested in bullying and wondered if there were some ways teachers could incorporate certain skills that would

help reduce bullying in and out of the classroom. You can view my presentation notes here.
