Prereading

This page is to be done before you read Crawdad Creek.  It will help you gain some knowledge about pond life and nature!

Activity One:  Before you begin reading Crawdad Creek print off this KWL chart.  In the first column write what you already know about ponds or creeks.  Do you know what kind of animals live at or near the pond?  Have you ever been to a creek, pond or river?  Next, fill out the second column with what you want to know about pond life.  Please leave the third column blank.  You can fill this in after you read Crawdad Creek. * Don't forget to make a prediction at the bottom of the KWL chart!*

Activity Two:  Now that you have finished the first two columns of the KWL chart put on your earphones and listen to nature!!  Go to this listening website and push play to listen.  Pull out a sheet of paper and write a short paragraph (5-7 sentences) about the sounds you hear.  Think about what animal or insect made the sounds.  What was your favorite sound?  Have you ever heard any of these sounds at night before?
