About Me

Abstract:

My name is Derrick Ousley. I attended Peru High School in Peru, Indiana. I graduated in the top half of my class with a 3.2-3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Nobody believed in me when I was growing up. They all thought I would drop out of school and be a worthless loser. I proved all of them wrong. I did graduate high school and I am attending college. I want to help the young children do the same thing I did. No one should ever have to go through life without someone there to help them get through it. Everyone deserves a shot at graduating if they chose to. I want to be the person all my young students can come to when they need advise or help with something. I will help them get to walk across that stage on graduation day.

Not many people I know share the same special day as I do. I came into this world on May 4th, 1992 in Peru, IN.  I was born at Dukes Memorial Hospital to Sheila Ousley and Anthony “Tony” Ousley.  I have one brother, Dean Michael Ousley, he is a year older than I am and is attending Manchester College as well.

Growing up life was not always easy. My mom and dad did their best to let my brother and I have to the best lives as possible. We normally got what we wanted when money was not an issue. We got to do whatever we wanted to if it did not involve leaving the yard or without adult supervision. The elementary school days were some of the best days of my life. I met all of my friends I have today there. At a young age I got involved in football, basketball, and baseball. The only one out of them three I stuck with through high was football. I participated in football for ten years. I played baseball for six years, and basketball for five years. I‘ll never forget growing up watching my brother because he was my role model and I wanted to be just like him.

I attended Main Street Preschool when I first started school. After preschool I attended Elmwood Elementary and that is where I met most of the great friends I have today. Some of them include Pete Spitznagle, U.S. Marine, Joe Bockover, U.S. Marine, and Jay Hight, U.S. Navy,. I attended Elmwood up until the 4th grade, where I switched schools and attended Blair Pointe Elementary School. There I met the most amazing teacher in the world. I had this teacher both 4th and 6th grade and her name is Mrs. Lori Hahn. She influenced me to become a teacher because she said I had a great teacher personality and I work great with the other children.  After attending Blair Pointe, where I felt like a big fish in a small pond, I attended Peru Junior High for my 7th and 8th grade year. There I felt like a very small fish in a very big pond. I finally ended my twelve years of school at Peru High School. Where I graduated in the top half of my class. My GPA when I graduated was between a 3.2 and a 3.3 on a 4 scale.

As a young child I enjoyed playing different types of games outside in the yard, but as I got older the only I really wanted to outside was play basketball or football. Other than that I always wanted to be sitting in front of a T.V screen playing video games, or sitting at a computer chatting away on Facebook. I have done a  lot of things in my life that I have been very disappointed in myself.  I wish I would have worked harder in school and got better grades, worked harder on the football field to help my team improve, and I wish I could have been an all round better person to each and everyone else.  I also had some things I am very proud of myself for. I would call these victories I have had in my life. One victory would be that I made it through all the times and actually graduated school, attending college, made a lot of friends, and was always there to help when someone was down or hurt. I always did struggle with certain school subjects such as science, foreign language, and history. I never could understand any of them subjects, but luckily I always had friends there to help me when I needed it.

My mom and dad were always there for me no matter what, they never gave up on me. I had only seen my dad cry once in my life until the big day came and I finally graduated high school and he cried with tears of joy. They were both so proud of me, because when I was little nobody thought I would make it through high school and to college. I showed everyone who did not believe in me, that I had everything it took to get to where I am today. I am going to graduate college and be a successful teacher.

I chose to become a teacher because I love working with our young youth to help become something big in life. Also because of the great teacher I had in elementary school who showed me that I could be anything I set my mind to be and I always wanted to be a teacher. She told me to never give up on my dream. She also said that not everyone is made out to be a teacher, but you’ll never know if you are or not unless you try. I chose Manchester College because it’s close to home and they have a really fantastic education program. I did not want to go very far away because I would miss my family a lot more than I do now and it is a very short drive home to see them.

These experiences have had great influence me on wanting to become a professional teacher. My goal is to make our youth more educated than the past, and help with any need

In conclusion, not anyone in this world is just like someone else. Not even twins are exactly alike in every little aspect. I have explained to you how growing up, my school history, and my future plans have affected the way I live my life to this day.
