Complete Power Divided
By Joel Luckey
Power can be defined as the possession of control over people. To have sovereign power over a nation is to have absolute power, the highest power that can be imagined. According to the philosophical position, Psychological Egoism states that all human actions are inherently selfish. We must realize that if any single person is given total power over another, the desires of the person with the power will be enforced through the other person. History shows us whenever one person has complete, sovereign power; it leads to the corruption of that power.
The most extreme example of corruption is Adolf Hitler’s dictatorship over Nazi Germany. There is nothing beyond a dictator’s grasp. They control ‘everything’, from the way in which the government operates, to the way in which the household is run.
There is no end to a dictator’s power for whatever he speaks it shall be done. When one person is trusted to decide the will of a nation, that man will be able to enforce his own desires through that nation. Therefore, he has complete power to do so, with no restrictions. He also has the entire resources of that nation to fulfill every whim of their personal agenda.
We have seen what happens when power of this magnitude is given to one person, it has always become corrupt. To give someone such an awesome power as that of a dictator is to give that person not just the power over one man’s life but of a nation of men’s lives. In essence this is taking away an entire nation’s and its people’s free will to pursue their own desires. Furthermore, no single human being should have control over another’s life. We each must choose are own destiny, for if we do not we have no identity and exist merely to serve another man’s purpose, which is barely an existence at all.
However, another type of power exists in history that has not been corrupted, the power of freedom. It exists today in the United States where power is divided among every person. Each of us has the power to vote for candidates that share our thoughts and beliefs or submit for a position ourselves. Every voice in the U.S. that wishes to be heard shall be. Gender, race, social class, and age all opinions will be heard.
Our Government is divided into three branches: Judicial, Executive, and Legislative that will not allow for one branch to have total control. Our government runs on a system of checks and balances. When a branch makes a decision it is checked by the other two branches to verify that it is constitutionally legal.
Our Economy is based on capitalism. Each of us wishes to prosper personally the more we prosper individually the better off the rest of the nation will be.
Power in the United States is defined as possession of control over oneself. We choose our own destiny. Someone else does not choose it for us. We exist for our own purpose to serve ourselves.
Citizens of the United States will never fear a total corruption of the government for the way in which our founding fathers wrote the constitution of our nation. No one man will ever have sovereign control over us. We each have the power to believe and think freely beyond the controlling grasp of another’s ideas.
