My Thoughts On

September 11, 2001

September 11, 2001 started out as any normal morning. I got up and started getting ready for the day, as I was doing this I turned on my television and it was on channel NBC. When I first saw the news I saw a burning tower and I just thought it was a scene for an upcoming movie, but to my surprise I was wrong, the burning tower was real. I told my mom to turn on her television and she started freaking out. I just let her watch while I finished getting ready and I just remember hearing my mom saying, “Oh my God another plane hit the tower.” As soon as I heard that I stopped doing my hair and joined my mom in watching this horrible event.

My first thought was horrible and I just had a gut feeling it was a terrorist attack and I was so upset. I just could not believe we could possibly go to war. I finished getting ready, because I was supposed to meet my friend for breakfast, because we had a half day of school. When I got to the restaurant my friend and I talked all about what was happening to the USA and how scared we were. I just kept thinking of all of those innocent people and their families and I was furious with the people who could do such a horrible crime. When we were leaving the news was on the radio and it had said an airplane hit the Pentagon and I knew for sure these were all terrorist attacks.

This really affected me for a couple of reasons. My dad was a commercial pilot for Midway Airlines and I was worried that something had happened to him, my mom and step dad are also in the flying business except their business has to deal with the private industry, and my brother is in the Army. I was very worried about what would happen to him, but I later found out he did not go right away because he had just came home from Bosnia and they could not go anywhere.

These terrorist attacks were on everyone’s mind and that is all you heard about. When I was watching the news and seeing the plane hitting the tower I was still in shock about the whole event. The news was covering what people could do to help the victims and their families. I decided to donate one hundred dollars to the American Red Cross, because I felt so horrible for all of these people. I know a hundred dollars was not much, but it was some thing.

I will never forget what happened on September 11th or what I was doing when I saw those planes crash into the two towers. When I first saw those planes crash into the towers I was so mad at the terrorists, but now I have a better understanding and I am still mad but not as mad as I was before.
