I want my students to learn in a safe place where they are inspired and motivated to gain knowledge. I want them to acquire skills of responsibility and self – discipline that will benefit them their entire lives. I do not want them to simply behave because the teacher said to. I want them to evolve past robotic manners and do the right thing because that is the moral ground that they claim for themselves. I want them to put aside bullying, not because it is written in the classroom rules, but because they have compassion toward those who are different from them. I want them to walk quietly in the hallway out of respect for others who are trying to learn. I want them to turn in their assignments on time because they hold themselves accountable for a higher standard of responsibility. This sounds extremely cliché and resembles a “pie in the sky” classroom approach. But, by believing in students as future citizens, parents, government officials, army generals, and possibly teachers, I owe it to each of them to give them all I have.
