Manchester Jr.-Sr. High School

For my internship I went to Manchester Jr.-Sr. High School in North Manchester, IN. While there I worked close with the school's guidance counselors Mrs. Terri Denney and Mr. Jason Hesting. During my internship I kept a daily log of all events and activities that occurred during my time.

My Big Project: Presentation for Junior class on preparation for college and the life in college.

Work that went into the presentation: Before I could create the presentation I had to research information about the preparation for college, facts about scholarships, and ideas on how to prepare students for college. While creating the presentation I had to include student participation to allow the students to engage by having them write out the plans for the future and what actions will they take to proceed these goals.  The name of the presentation was called Life After High School. In the beginning of the presentation I took the students through the steps of deciding of college was the best choice for them and gave the students a handout to follow along. Next we took a time out so the students could map out their future goals of their educational plans, experiential plans, and action and support plans. After the handouts I continued into the presentation on what college life  on campus could be like for the students. I explained some the of campus activities that were on my campus but could also be at other colleges.

Throughout my time at Manchester High School I did many things including: I learned the position of a guidance counselor has in case conferences and learned the process of a case conference. I learned that the life a guidance counselor is never a dull moment because this career can have surprises around ever corner. I assisted the guidance counselors with many tasks including helping with AP tests, working at the elementary school on Fridays, and keeping a log of students going to tutoring.
