Background
The club was formed in 2014 by students
enrolled in PE 1054 Ballroom Dance, taught by professional instructors and
competitive dancers Tony Didier and Danel Nickels-Didier (MU ’98). Tony, along with the school where he
teaches, Dance Tonight Fort
Wayne, continue to support the development of
the club. Our purpose is to promote
knowledge of, and participation in, ballroom dancing at Manchester
University. Ballroom dancing
is typically understood to include the following styles.
Ø
Smooth (e.g., waltz, tango, foxtrot, quickstep)
Ø
Latin (e.g., cha cha, rumba, bolero, mambo, samba)
Ø
Swing (e.g., east coast swing, west coast swing,
jitterbug)
Ø
Club (e.g., salsa, merengue, hustle, night club
two-step)
Ongoing Activities
Ø
PE Activity Courses – taught by professional
instructor Tony Didier
Ø
Practice Sessions ─ informal sessions to
practice material learned in classes.
Ø
Dance Outings ─ trips to public dances in the
Ft. Wayne area
Ø
On-Campus Dances ─ two dances per semester open
to all students, faculty and staff.
