Reading Responses

Reading responses are more formal summarization and analysis of the readings assigned each week in Edtec 685. The following responses are my interpretation and application of the materials.

Reading Response #1 - No Child Left Behind

This response examines several different readings related to the federal mandate No Child Left Behind. While accountablity is crucial in our field, NCLB has shifted the focus from children to testing.

Reading Response #2 - Assessment

Assessment has always been an important element of teaching. Good teachers use informal and formal assessment to influence their teaching. From observations to weekly reading comprehension tests, teachers assess their learners. Unfortunately, schools dedicate too much time to standardized tests, because this is the measure the government uses to determine student achievement. Several different authors acknowledge the importance of assessment, but indicate there is much more to it than simply providing a number.
