A House for Hermit Crab

Summary

    A House for Hermit Crab written and illustrated by Eric Carle.  This story explores the life of on hermit crab name Hermit Crab.  He decides that his shell has gotten too small for him and he needs to find a new home. After finding his new shell or home, he decides that it is too plain for him and he needs to decorate it.  Hermit Crab starts asking other sea creatures if they would like to decorate or live on his shell.  Within a couple of months Hermit Crab has many new friends living on his shell.  At the end of the story Hermit Crab becomes too small for his new shell, so he give it to a smaller hermit crab. 

 

 

 

About The Author

    Eric Carle was born in Syracuse, New York in 1929.  When Eric was only six years old he moved to Germany with his parents.  Eric Carle has written and illustrated many books.  His most famous book is the Hungry Hungry Caterpillar . Activity 2- Find three facts that you find interesting about hermit crabs using this website: Hermit Crab Facts.  Write down answers on the sheet provided in materials. 

 

 

 

While You Read

Activity 1- While you are reading find five vocabulary words that you do not know the meaning or are hard to read.  Write these five words on the worksheet you printed off earlier in the materials needed section.  When you are finished reading look up the definition of your five vocabulary word and write them next to the words.  Use this online dictionary to find the definitions WordCentral.Com - Dictionary
