Credo
Abstract
This credo is a reflection of who I am as a person. It includes my personal values and the philosophical orientations of existentialism. I have always had a passion for teaching and I will use my philosophical orientations and thoughts about teaching and learning to conduct a classroom in the way I think will make a difference. I plan on using my qualities and qualifications to help my students better themselves. I believe I will have a well-built influence on my students and it is up to me to show and provide them with a positive learning environment
My personality can be described in many ways and words. If you were to ask
anyone close to me they would say I’m a hard worker, I try to do my best at
whatever I may be doing, I’m a kind gentle hearted person that doesn’t get upset
very easily, and I strive to make everyone around me happy. Most of my friends
would say I am a good person to be around, I make people laugh, I’m easy going,
I don’t care to much about what people think of me I’m myself and that’s all I
can give, and I that I am very good to my girl friend and I care about her
deeply. No matter whom the person may be that you ask I’m sure that they all
would agree that I am a very down to earth kind of person and that I’m easy to
get along with. My attitude, and other people’s attitudes very important to me.
I believe that a person’s attitude reflects who they really are as a person, and
I really make it an effort to keep a positive attitude at all times. I try to
distance myself from people that display a negative attitude, I try to stay
positive even if the situation is not the best. By using this belief of having a
positive attitude it has provided me with great satisfaction and opportunities,
and I can only hope that I can rub off on someone else
By having this kind of attitude I would like to apply this to my teaching
career. I am also a business major and with the education I receive I would like
to teach others about the importance of business. I believe that in today’s
society we have many problems with our economy, and as a teacher I want to teach
students the importance of these situations, and what they should look for in a
job and what to expect. I know as a teacher it is my responsibility to teach
these children skills and knowledge that they can use for the rest of their
life. In high school economics is required in order to graduate, as a former
high school student that had to take the class I thought it was the most useless
class ever. But I realized that these are real problems and when I entered the
work force I saw it first hand, so it is my job to teach these students about
these issues and at the same time make it enjoyable.
In my class I will have many students that are more intelligent than others or
they may understand the material a little bit better, so since I’m I will be
using the same grading scale for everyone ill have to be able to make the
material understandable for everyone but also not make it too easy so that it
doesn’t pose a challenge. Since others will have different learning abilities I
will have to take more things into consideration since they are all on the same
grading scale. Like attendance will be taken and you will receive a grade on
that little things will be graded in order to help others pass. In my classroom
I will ask my student to follow my philosophy of having a good positive
attitude, and that the way they act here is the way they will act in a real life
situation. I want my students to strive for excellence, I want them to put all
they can into trying to learn the material and use it in everyday life.
With the use of my philosophy of having a positive attitude I also expect my
students to use good judgment and to be honest. I have used good judgment in
many situations in my life. One situation that I can recall was when I was
younger and I a decision that made a dramatic impact on my life. I was only 12
and I was with some friend and we were just hanging out one night with nothing
to do. They had the idea of going over to this guys house that they knew to
smoke some weed and pop some pills. I used my good judgment and told them that I
was ok and that they could go without me, I got harassed for a while then they
left. It’s been 9 years now and those guys I used to call friends are all caught
up in drug and one is even in jail for selling coke. With my good judgment I was
able to stay out of that crowed and live my life not someone else’s, and I
expect for my students to do the same.
Cheating is an act of dishonesty and bad
judgment. Cheating can cause a student to receive a higher grade when he/she did
not deserve It. The student didn’t hurt anyone but themselves by not using their
full ability. If I allowed a child to cheat then this would cause he/she to
think that it was ok and when they become adults they will do the same thing in
the work environment. I believe it is important for students to value honesty in
their work and use their own good judgment they know what’s right and wrong.
Existentialism is a “highly subjective philosophy that stresses the importance
of the individual and emotional commitment to living
authentically.”Existentialism was influenced by Maxine Greene, who believed that
a perfect curriculum would require students to develop their own questions and
inquiries. I believe students should think for themselves and not have others do
it for them that way they can use their own was learning the material. Having
the knowledge of a subject is important, but students also need to be able to
apply it to their personal life, and know how it can affect them as a person. If
I allow my students to have some freedom in the classroom this can help them
make their own choices. By doing this I am letting the student be somewhat free
I wouldn’t be just work and lecture, the students will work and learn together
and they can teach each other things. In the subject of education that I have
chosen it is not that interesting but I can make a list of topics that I think
are important and the class chose from that list on what they want to learn
another area of freedom. I want my students to have fun in the class and I want
to socialize with one another.
Who I am today are all results from the values and beliefs that abide by. I
think that in order for your students and anyone else to take you seriously you
have to display who you really are as a person and not someone different when
you’re around other people. I believe that if a person is different in one
situation then they probable are going to be different in another instead of
being who they really are. Me personally I hold myself to high expectations, I
try hard to strive and do my best in whatever I do, and I will hold my students
to these same standards. By using these standards of living it has brought me
much happiness and rewarded me with many qualities, and I believe it could work
for my students. I don’t expect perfection since it is not the same as
excellence, excellence is demonstrated on how hard you try and how you
accomplish your tasks.
I love working with children especially ones that come from different
backgrounds you get a chance to see what it’s like. As a teacher I want to
create a positive environment for my students and improve their knowledge of the
business world and what they can look forward to. As a teacher you can only do
so much for a student. It is up to the student to come to you for help and
advice; he/she can take your advice or give it right back it’s up to them. I may
not be able to change a student’s life but I can provide them with a positive
attitude. I believe that as long as I try and provide them with encouragement I
will be able to strive in the teaching field. I want to be able to serve my
community and help out as much as possible, and with my philosophy on life I
know I can achieve what I want to accomplish.
