About the book: North Country Nights is about a forest that comes to life after all the humans are asleep. As new nocturnal animals are being introduced, so are their habits and a few of their survival skills. This book covers who is chasing whom and who is hiding where.
About the author: Daniel San Souci was born in San Francisco, California, and grew up in Berkeley, California. In his career Daniel has written over fifty children's books. He knew from childhood that he wanted to write and illustrate his own books. His favorite books to publish are his books about wildlife. He now has three daughters with his wife and they live in the East Bay Hills.

Before you read: Complete these activities.
Activity 1:

Fill in the Know and What You Want To Learn sections about woods and the animals in the woods.
Activity 2:
Visit this website and be sure to know at least three trees in Indiana:

Once you have found three trees sketch them in your writer's notebook. (If you have time you might even want to add color so that you remember the tree.)
