Manchester College Department of
Education
based on the INTASC Principles
C1- Plans
informative, developmentally appropriate lessons and/or units
INTASC 2, 3, 4, 7
NBPTS 1,2
I designed a lesson plan for the head start class at Manchester Intermediate School. The lesson was covering how well the students could identify letters in the alphabet. This lesson was appropriate for the age level, and the children were working with this in the classroom as well. I wrote a reflection on the lesson plan and have a rubric from the teacher.
I also designed another lesson plan; this lesson plan is for third graders learning punctuation and capitalization.
C2- Teaches subject matter accurately to insure that students can meet P-12 academic standards INTASC 1, 3, 4, 7 NBPTS 1,2
C3- Uses interdisciplinary instruction as appropriate INTASC 1, 7 NBPTS 1,2
C4- Addresses subject matter from various points of view INTASC 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 NBPTS 1,2
I understand that all students learn at different rates and have different learning strategies. The lesson plan for my group presentation on autism spectrum disorder, Kelley and I designed a differentiated learning activity to meet different learning styles of the students in the classroom. I wrote a reflection on the lesson plan we presented in class.
C5- Teaches students to use critical thinking and problem solving strategies INTASC 4, 5, 7 NBPTS1,2
C6- Uses effective questioning strategies INTASC 4, 5, 7 NBPTS 1,2
In my step-by-step plan of my lesson plan, I composted a list of questions to ask. These questions are asked before and after the lesson on punctuation and capitalization. This is an effective use of questioning strategies because I used Bloom’s Taxonomy and Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences as I composed the list.
…assesses
students’ learning and development with numerous amounts of

instructional planning
A1- Develops appropriate tools to assess learning
INTASC 4, 8
NBPTS 3
I designed a lesson plan for the heard start class at Manchester Intermediate School. The lesson was covering how well the students could identify letters in the alphabet. The manipulative tool I used was letters from the alphabet. This lesson was appropriate for the age level, and the children were learning and working with the alphabet in the classroom as well. I wrote a reflection on the manipulative tool I used during the lesson.
In learning through movement, my group and I dramatized a children's literature book. We made puppets for the book, and performed a puppet show. The video and rubric represents an appropriate tool to assess learning. The video is uploaded at YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJItjV2ndbU

R1- Demonstrates sensitivity for diversity with students, colleagues, parents, college faculty, and/or community agencies INTASC 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 NBPTS 5
I attended a workshop in Indianapolis, and sat in on two guest speakers. Afterwards, I presented an oral presentation rubric on literacy for disabled students. The oral presentation demonstrated sensitivity for the diversity of students.
My learning field experience paper and rubric represents sensitivity for diversity with children.
R2- Demonstrates with full awareness of ethical and legal responsibilities of teachers INTASC 7, 8, 9 NBPTS 4,5
I composed a brochure for parents; this brochure helps parents have a better understanding of ethical and legal responsibilities that teachers deal with in the classroom.
R3- Values life-long learning, personal/professional development, and/or service orientation INTASC 9 NBPTS 4, 5
The journal article, "Portraits of Partnership: The Hope and Dreams Project", discusses the involvement of families, and how they are an essential part of student's education. The Journal Article models professional development and service orientation.
In intro to teaching, I wrote a field experience reflection paper, which discussed my life-long learning and how to improve students' education. I also was given a rubric for the field experience paper.
