Curriculum

…constructs and delivers appropriate curriculum for P-12 students.

C1- Plans informative, developmentally appropriate lessons and/or units INTASC 2, 3, 4, 7  NBPTS 1,2

This three week Softball Unit Plan covers skills needed to play a softball game, showing my ability to write developmentally appropriate units. The unit plan consists of standards and performance objectives, skill analysis, warm-up and fitness activities, block plan, and references.

This three week Swimming Unit Plan, shows my ability to develop appropriate units, by covering the main skills needed for sufficient swimming and provides a skill and written exam.

C2- Teaches subject matter accurately to insure that students can meet P-12 academic standards  INTASC 1, 3, 4, 7 NBPTS 1,2

This Lesson Plan addresses Indiana's academic standards for each domain (cognitive, affective, and psychomotor) with each having a performance indicator from each grade level within the middle school.

Math, science, and physical education standards are met throughout this interdisciplinary Lesson Plan. It is a kindergarten lesson that teaches the students to count out loud, understand muscle strength and endurance, and begin to understand how their bodies move throughout general space.

C3- Uses interdisciplinary instruction as appropriate INTASC 1, 7 NBPTS 1,2

I created this Interdisciplinary Lesson Plan to teach students the differences among healthy and unhealthy foods by having them think critically about whether specific foods were health or unhealthy for their bodies. After a decision was made, the students used a   locomotor movement to move to a designated sign that read "Healthy" or "Unhealthy."

During a rhythmic movement and gymnastics unit, this kindergarten or first grade Interdisciplinary Lesson Plan teaches students animal movements. Before the students perform the animal movement, they are given two interesting facts about that specific breed.

C4- Addresses subject matter from various points of view INTASC 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 NBPTS 1,2

This  Reflection of a workshop I attended provides evidence of tools that I have administered to show sensitivity and appreciation to diversity.

This Cardio Respiratory Endurance Lesson incorporates Bloom's Taxonomy and Gardner's Multiple Intelligences so that each type of learner has the opportunity to learn something new at some point during the lesson.

C5- Teaches students to use critical thinking and problem solving strategies INTASC 4, 5, 7 NBPTS1,2

A Golf Reciprocal Task Sheet that was completed by two of my students during PEP (Physical Education Program) shows their critical analysis of each others golf swing. it also allows the students to witness their weakness in the skill and what they need to improve upon.

Through critical thinking, students have to decide whether they think certain foods are healthy or unhealthy for their bodies in an Interdisciplinary Lesson Plan I developed.

C6- Uses effective questioning strategies INTASC 4, 5, 7 NBPTS 1,2

This Written Test Evaluation demonstrates my effectiveness in teaching a lesson over cardio respiratory endurance and administering a small quiz over the topic. This reflection also shows me what questions were effective and which ones were not. This will allow for better questioning on the next quiz over cardio respiratory endurance.

A Word Search basketball test was administered to seventh graders after a three week basketball unit.  The assessment provides blanks for the students to write down the correct answer. The word search serves as a word bank and keeps the students busy while classmates are finishing the assessment.

Assessment

assesses students’ learning and development with a variety of measures to aid in appropriate and effective instructional planning

A1- Develops appropriate tools to assess learning INTASC 4, 8 NBPTS 3

This is a Swimming Test that was created for my swimming unit to adminster the knowledge of skills and rules learned throughout the three weeks.

A Sixth Grade Assessment was created to assess their knowledge about volleyball basics. Being worth ten points, the test is broken down into two sections of true and false and multiple choice.

A2- Assesses learning through standardized and/or teacher constructed tests to drive future instruction INTASC 8 NBPTS 3

A standardized test called the FitnessGram was administered during 2008 to PEP (Physical Education Program) students to test the five components of physical fitness. It was then compared with results from previous FitnessGram testing in 2007 to see areas of strength and weaknesses.

The Test of Gross Motor Development 1 2 3 4 was administer during PEP at the beginning of the semester and the end to evaluate students progress in their locomotor and manipulative skills. The evaluation critiqued the skill analysis of each movement and allowed the student to understand what was incorrect about each movement.

A3- Assesses learning through appropriate alternative measures to drive future instruction INTASC 4, 8 NBPTS 3

A Progress Report is administered during PEP to evaluate students past and current development levels in the psychomotor and affective aspects. This report is sent home to parents so they can see what their child's strengths and weaknesses are physically and emotionally.

Golf Reciprocal Task Sheet was given to students to fill out about their partners golf swing, showing them parts of the swing they have perfected and parts that need improvement and more instruction. This also allows for better future instruction for myself to see what aspects of the golf swing need more attention than others.

A4- Uses a variety of appropriate, authentic assessment tools and methods INTASC 4, 8 NBPTS 3

The Smiley Face Assessment was developed to evaluate kindergarten or first grade students emotions and thoughts about specific activities practiced during PEP, and their overall feelings about themselves as being physically active.

A middle school Dance Routine Assignment is an authentic assessment tool that evaluates the students ability during the actual use of dance and gymnastics. A Grading Rubric is provided to see the scale of how the assignment is graded.

Relationships

…establishes professional and reciprocal relationships with others invested in P-12 students’ learning

R1- Demonstrates sensitivity for diversity with students, colleagues, parents, college faculty, and/or community agencies  INTASC 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 NBPTS 5

This Certificate shows my participation in a poverty workshop that provided a first hand mock poverty lifestyle. The simulation provided a real life prospective of what some of the students in your classroom go through on a daily basis. It instills a sensitivity to those who are underprivileged and faced with ongoing problems.

This is a  Reflection that shows my sensitivity to diversity, from a workshop I attended where we celebrated diversity through various activities, demonstrations, and presentations.

R2- Demonstrates with full awareness of ethical and legal responsibilities of teachers INTASC 7, 8, 9 NBPTS 4,5

My SHAPE Club Membership shows proof that I am aware of ethical and legal responsibilities, and participate in activities that teach me new things about this the world of exercise and sport sciences.

This is a certificate shows that I engage in legal responsibilities by completing the requirements needed to become CPR and First Aid certified.

R3- Values life-long learning, personal/professional development, and/or service orientation INTASC 9 NBPTS 4, 5

A Certificate from the workshop, Fit 4 Learning, demonstrates my desire to grow professionally by attending and learning new ways to keep students actively involved with the technology of music/iPods.

This Certificate to be a volunteer Special Olympics coach shows personal and professional development. During the class, Adapted Physical Activity, I trained with special needs students for the 2008 Special Olympics at Wabash High School.

R4- Models appropriate oral communication skills INTASC 6 NBPTS 1, 2

A Feedback evaluation that was filled out by a co-teacher/co-classmate during one of my teachings at PEP (Physical Education Program) displays my effective communication skills with the students.

An Evaluation filled out by a professor shows the effectiveness of my oral communication skills in explanation of the activity, feedback, and closure of the lesson.

R5- Models appropriate written communication skills INTASC 6 NBPTS 1, 2

These are Journal Reflections that model written communication to my professor about twenty hours of working with special needs children.

Journal Reflections from observing and student-teaching a high school physical/health education class shows appropriate written communication to my professor about my experiences.

R6- Motivates students to learn individually, collaboratively, and cooperatively INTASC 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 NBPTS 1,2, 3

Homework called, Gym Shorts1 and Gym Shorts2 , was given at PEP (Physical Education Program) allowed students to learn individually in making their own work-outs to participate in throughout the week.

A kindergarten or first grade Lesson Plan allows students to learn individually and collaboratively through exploration of body movements, and use of parachute for rhythmic activities. Motivation for the students to learn individually is apparent during the fitness warm-up activity that encourages them to find new ways parts of their bodies can more in personal space.

R7- Plans lessons in collaborative teams INTASC 6, 10 NBPTS 5

This Lesson was done collaboratively with an elementary teacher to see if the second and third grade students would be able to comprehend the aspects of the lesson.

This is a reflection during my Start of School Experience that shows my collaboration with my cooperating teacher on a lesson for the students on the first day of physical education class.

Environment

…creates positive and caring environments for student development and learning

E1- Differentiates learning opportunities that respond to individual learning styles and learning challenges INTASC 2, 3, 4, 5 NBPTS 1, 2, 3

Soccer Adaptation Packet was created to administered those students with learning challenges. These students should always be included in every lesson so a packet that includes adaptations that can be made to teaching cues and activities was made.

A Lesson that touches base with the Bloom's Taxonomy and Gardner's Multiple Intelligences during a soccer activity allows for different learning styles to comprehend the material at some point in the lesson.

E2- Uses a variety of teaching methods and materials INTASC 2, 3, 4 NBPTS 1, 2, 3

Using the Task Teaching Style, this lesson plan teaches and allows students to use the locomotor skill in various situations.

This is a lesson that uses the Command Method over manipulative skills. The teacher is leading the activity while the students are scattered around the general area. A specific task is given and on cue the students start and stop that task when the teacher says to. This command method ensures all students are being active.

E3- Uses a variety of appropriate media and technology INTASC 2, 3, 4 NBPTS 1, 2, 3

A Bulletin Board was made about alcohol, tobacco, and drugs that allows students to be interactive with the board and learn facts about this topic.

This Power Point  over the effects that alcohol can have on the body shows my use of appropriate media and technology in a health classroom setting.

E4- Keeps records to monitor, document, and report student progress INTASC 8, 10 NBPTS 1, 3

The Test of Gross Motor Development 1 2 3 4 was administer during PEP at the beginning of the semester and the end to evaluate students progress in their locomotor and manipulative skills.

A standardized test called the FitnessGram was given during 2008 to the PEP students to test the five components of physical fitness and  compare the progress with results from previous FitnessGram testing in 2007.

E5- Manages student behavior in positive, safe ways INTASC 2, 5 NBPTS 1,3

In a swimming unit plan, I made a Handout talking about safety concerns that come along with swimming and being around a wet environment. It explains rules and procedures that need to be followed when entering the swimming area.

A Reflection from student teaching that shows my ability to create positive behavior within one of my students that has always been a problem child for me from the beginning of my experience at the elementary school.

E6- Models conflict resolution skills INTASC 2, 5, 8 NBPTS 1, 3

This Reflection demonstrates my ability to deal with conflict within the classroom when two students did not want to participate within the same group for an activity at the elementary level.

During a lesson, three students decided to misbehave and not follow directions or listen to instructions for the activity. This Reflection demonstrates the procedures I took to resolve the conflict.

E7- Engages in research and reflection on best practices in teaching strategies INTASC 1, 2, 7, 9 NBPTS 4, 5

A Reflection over a lesson on locomotor movements shows my motivation to become a better educator. It explains the effectiveness and ineffectiveness throughout the lesson.

This Teaching Reflection shows my learning  and improvement as a young teacher and my engagement in evaluating my lesson so that I do not have to re-experience the same mistakes in the future.
