Natalie Aschenbrenner's
Philosophy of Teaching

My philosophy of teaching says a teacher is not just an instructor but also a friend, counselor, leader, and role model.

As a friend and counselor, I will be a teacher with whom students and parents are comfortable associating with. I will be a part of my students lives both in and out of class.  It is important to me that I share students’ enthusiasm not only for learning but also for extra curricular activities.  Throughout my school years, not many of my teachers showed much interest in my sporting events and activities; however, the few who did gave me a greater respect and appreciation for them.  If my students invite me to their sports’ games, I will feel privileged to attend.  Not only will I show an interest in students’ activities and hobbies but also in their concerns and joys.  I desire to be a teacher who is approachable as someone they can talk to and depend on for empathy and understanding when they are not in high spirits.  I aim to communicate with students at their level in order to prevent any intimidation of pursuing me for counsel with their school work or concerns and joys.

As a leader and a role model, I will show my students how to approach life with a positive attitude and confidence.  In class I will encourage them to express themselves and respect each other's differences.  Students will learn to celebrate diversity rather than hide diversity.  They will learn to value the strengths and weaknesses of each other.  Then they will be able to able their citizenship in the classroom to their citizenship in society.

I will engrain in my students my confidence in them to live successful lives.  Success will not be taught as monetary gain, but living to one's potential.  I will encourage them as they take big and small steps to academic and behavioral improvement.  By differentiating lessons, I will meet their individual needs and interests so they can reach their potential.  I want to expand each child's intellect to see beyond the narrow spectrum facts and figures.  I will teach students to apply what they have learned by using real life examples and demonstrations.

My philosophy calls for a positive attitude, hard work, patience, and energy.   I am more than willing to put forth all these as I perform the teaching profession.
