Assessment Administration

The assessment administration is a paper about the experience of giving a diagnostic test to a peer.  I gave the Peabody Picture Vocabulary test to a peer in my class, and reflected on the experience of administering and scoring the test.

 

Social Studies Lessons

Inventors Unit

This unit is designed to introduce fifth graders to inventors through a variety of cross-curriculum lessons.   

 

Taxation Without Representation

In this fifth grade lesson, students will explain how both sides of the conflict felt about the taxes imposed.

 

Thirteen Colonies

In this fifth grade lesson, students will write take on the persona of a colonist and write about the feelings they face as they move to the "New World".

 

Science Lessons

Gravity Science Trail & WebQuest

This is a two-part fifth grade interactive lesson.  First, the students are asked to go into the field and explore falling objects.  Then the students follow-up this activity by learning more about gravity using several web-based activities. 

 

"The Changing Me" Lesson

This is a third grade lesson designed to introduce students to measuring. 

 

"Oobleck" Lesson

In this 5-E format lesson, second graders are asked to explore Oobleck and its properties. 

 

"Seed Parts" Lesson

This is a fifth grade lesson designed to introduce students to the parts of a plant.  

 

"Soda" Lesson

In this fifth grade lesson, the students will explore the contents of soda. 

 

Music Lesson

"Dynamics" Lesson

This lesson uses several activities to teach students how dynamics add a new quality to a song. 

 

 

Math Lessons

"Chef for a Day" Lesson

This lesson was created for a Mildly Mentally Handicapped class.  The lesson teaches the students how to use ordinal numbers.

 

"What Is It?" Lesson

In this third grade lesson, students predict whether a situation is certain, likely, unlikely, or impossible.

 

"Yummy Gummy Subtraction" Lesson

This lesson was created for a Mildly Mentally Handicapped class who was learning subtraction.  The lesson teaches the students subtraction using gummy bear manipulatives.

 

Content Papers

Art Paper: Why Teach Art?

This paper looks at the reasons and research about why teaching art is important for students.

 

Behavior Management Plan

This paper explains a possible behavior management plan that I will use in a classroom.  It includes a classroom sketch, a parent letter, a list of possible procedures, and a list of possible expectations and consequences I will use in my classroom.

 

Case Study

As an honor's project, I spent 60 hours observing two pre-schools. This is a paper comparing the two pre-school programs.  

 

Comparison Paper

As an honor's project, I spent a day observing four elementary school classrooms to see how teachers differentiated their instruction in the classroom. 

 

Content Methodology Paper

This paper will share what I have gained from my content and methodology classes at Manchester College.  I hope to share how I have grown as a teacher throughout my years at Manchester College.

 

Field Experience Protocol

I spent seventeen hours tutoring two fifth grade students.  As I participated in this field experience I used my knowledge of several theorists to supplement my experience with these students.

 

Liberal Arts Education Paper

This paper explains the significance Manchester College's liberal art's program has had in my teacher preparation.  In this paper, I share how the liberal arts program has caused me to expand my horizons and broaden my perspectives about life.   

 

Teaching Philosophy

The credo is outlines my teaching philosophy.  I wrote this paper in my Introduction to Teaching course.  It is based on my agreements and disagreements with several teaching philosophies.

 

Tutoring Experience

This paper will be available in January of 2007.  I will assess, diagnose, create a plan of action, and tutor an elementary school student in reading.  Throughout our sessions together I will collect pre-test and post-test data, as well as visually graph the information to show the impact this tutoring experience has had on this student.

Literature Unit

This is an outline for a fifth grade focus unit based on the novel Land of Hope, by Joan Lowery Nixon.

 

"The Reason for Seasons" Web Lesson

This is an interactive website that I created with a partner to go along with the book The Reason for Seasons, by Gail Gibbons.  The website provides before, during, and after reading internet activities for the students to do as they read the book. 

 

"Connections" Lesson

This lesson was designed to be used in a fifth grade classroom at the beginning of the school year.  The students use Venn Diagrams to get to know their peers.

 

"Go Fish" Lesson 

In this first grade lesson, students use a game to work on rhyming words. 

 

"Letter Writing" Lesson

This is a fifth grade lesson that combines letter writing with a Social Studies standard in a unique way.  The class is encouraged to write letters to each state to learn more information about the fifty states. 

 

"Mandala" Lesson

In this third grade lesson, the students learn about story conflict by creating a Mandala.

 

"Predicting Gloria's Moves" Lesson

This is a lesson for a third-fourth grade Mildly Mentally Handicapped class.  In this lesson the students learn to use a comprehension reading strategy.  

 

" ReQuest and Story Drama Strategies" Lesson

This is a fourth grade lesson designed to introduce students to two different reading comprehension strategies.
