Here are some lesson plans that I have completed in my years at Manchester College: All standards are taken from Indiana's Academic Standards

Second Grade:

    Science

        Exploring seeds  In this lesson students explore seeds and record their observations in their science journals.       

    English/Language Arts

        Rewriting the ending to Duck for President Students are given an opportunity to rewrite the ending to the story.

        Storytelling Retelling stories for an audience

        Acting on the Farm Using Dramatic Play in the classroom

        Writing a book  Students write their own book on the topic of life on the farm.

    Music

        Moving with Music In this lesson students are exposed to the musical terms crescendo, decrescendo, andante, and allegro.

        Animals in the Barn Students play a game while learning more about farm animals.

    Art

        Sheep in the Field Students create fuzzy sheep exploring the texture of sheep.  Great to post on a bulletin board!

        Farm Mobiles  This lesson students construct a farm mobile using several different patterns.

    Math

        Plotting Land Students plot a map of an Amish community, including several types of fields.

    Social Studies

        Down Buttermilk Lane This lesson students are exposed to the Amish farming community and their way of life. 

        Exploring farms on the computer  Students complete a webquest while meeting a social studies standard
