Contributing factors

• Self-serving emotions- Finding something to believe in a image or person so the particular person feels more comfortable with the new or different group.
  • By calling Tyra Banks 'fat' it helps the public an opportunity to identify what they should be and what they should admire in the public.

• Language Patterns- A way in which it's easiest to classify differences depending on the medium.
  • In the video game community, men should be portrayed as the hero- masculine, loud, and strong. Women on the other hand should be attractive, slow witted, and sex objects. As children, boys are supposed to be dirty, messy, and active. Young girls on the other hand should be tidy and not physically active. Adults men should be protective and a provider and women should be domesticated and resources.

Correctives

• Be sensitive to context- It's necessary to take a moment and assess the medium in which the stereotyping is occurring.

• Premise of Uniqueness- Beyond realizing that things/people are different, realize how they are different.

  • Note that men are 'protective' but not all the men are protective. Note that some girls are clean and tidy, but a lot of young girls love to play in the dirt.

  • Tyra Banks is supposed to be "thin" yet she is able to embrace the uniqueness of her individual body.
